We are seeking a Quality Systems Specialist Lead to join our Amberley Quality team, supporting Boeing Defence Australias (BDA) evolving MQ-28 program. This role is critical in bridging the gap between traditional MRO practices and a production-driven mindset, ensuring quality excellence as we scale operations and integrate complex production workflows within an MRO environment.

As part of the BDA Quality Function, you will provide quality assurance leadership across both Operation & Test pillars of the MQ-28 program and the broader BDA business, navigating the unique challenges of transitioning from a primarily MRO focus to a hybrid production and maintenance environment.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead and embed a culture of First Time Quality (FTQ) and continuous improvement tailored to the complexities of an MRO-production hybrid environment.
  • Develop and drive Quality Management System (QMS) projects and initiatives aligned with the MQ-28 Quality strategic plan, focusing on scalability, repeatability, and compliance in a production-intensive MRO setting.
  • Present quality project plans, technical roadmaps, risk assessments, and recommendations that address the challenges of balancing production throughput with stringent MRO quality standards.
  • Influence and support decision-making processes that reconcile the differing priorities and workflows of MRO and production teams.
  • Train and mentor internal teams to build capabilities that support a shift towards a production mindset while maintaining MRO quality rigor.
  • Review and validate product non-conformances, dispositions, quality procedures, and engineering requirements, ensuring alignment with both production and MRO regulatory frameworks.
  • Perform detailed analysis to evaluate product, process, and operational quality against QMS requirements, contract obligations, and government regulations.
  • Lead root cause analysis efforts for process non-conformances, collaborating with technical experts to implement sustainable corrective actions.
  • Foster strong cross-functional relationships across BDA and MQ-28 teams to support integrated quality objectives.
  • Provide guidance and collaborate with Quality team members to meet program targets, balancing production schedules with MRO quality demands.
  • Report to Quality and MQ-28 leadership and key stakeholders, managing resources effectively to meet deliverables and timelines in a dynamic environment.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • 5+ years experience in Quality Management Systems within aviation, aerospace production, or MRO environments, with a strong understanding of the challenges in shifting between these mindsets.
  • Tertiary qualifications in engineering, aviation, quality management, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in ISO 9001 and AS 9100 standards, with practical application in both production and MRO contexts.
  • Working knowledge of Defence Aviation Safety Regulations (DASR) Parts 145, 21J, and familiarity with Part 21G (or CASA/EASA equivalents).
  • A proactive, hands-on approach with the ability to independently resolve complex quality issues in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with proven ability to engage and influence senior stakeholders across diverse teams.
  • Experience coaching and developing team members to adapt to changing operational mindsets and quality expectations.
  • Excellent prioritization and time management skills under pressure.
  • Australian Citizenship, with the ability to obtain and maintain an Australian Department of Defence clearance up to TOP SECRET level.

Applicants must be Australian Citizens to meet Defence security requirements.
