Job Summary:
An Aircraft Painter is responsible for preparing, painting, and finishing aircraft surfaces while ensuring compliance with FAA regulations, company standards, and customer specifications. The role involves surface preparation, masking, applying primers and topcoats, and performing touch-ups as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare aircraft surfaces by cleaning, sanding, and masking to ensure proper paint adhesion.
- Mix and apply primers, sealants, topcoats, and specialized coatings per manufacturer and customer specifications.
- Use spray guns and other painting tools to ensure an even and high-quality finish.
- Perform detailed masking, taping, and stenciling for logos, stripes, and registration numbers.
- Inspect painted surfaces for defects and make necessary touch-ups or corrections.
- Ensure compliance with all safety procedures, environmental regulations, and FAA guidelines.
- Maintain and clean painting tools, spray booths, and work areas.
- Document work performed accurately in maintenance logs and company systems.
- Collaborate with other technicians and departments to ensure timely completion of projects.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Previous experience as an Aircraft Painter or similar role in aviation or automotive painting.
- Knowledge of painting techniques, materials, and FAA regulations related to aircraft coatings.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and work orders.
- Proficiency in using painting tools such as HVLP spray guns, sanders, and polishers.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a team environment.
- Ability to work in physically demanding conditions, including standing for long periods, lifting heavy equipment, and wearing protective gear.
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional certifications in painting or refinishing are a plus.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with military, commercial, or corporate aircraft painting.
- FAA certifications or training in aircraft coatings.
- Knowledge of composite surface painting and specialty coatings.
Work Environment:
- Exposure to chemicals, fumes, and high-noise environments.
- May require overtime, weekend shifts, or travel, depending on project needs.
