Job Summary

As part of the PSM Aerospace Quality Team, the primary responsibilities will be providing quality-related technical input for all new make and overhaul product including inspection and test plans, gage R&R studies, process capability analysis, AS9102, NADCAP, SAR, FAR145 or FAIR documentation and supporting internal audits to ensure all regulatory and customer quality system requirements are in conformance. In addition, be able to contribute to collaborative team efforts to solve quality or cost issues associated with these products. 

Secondary responsibility is to develop, document, and/or monitor supplier performance including periodic visits to the supply chain as required to assist and oversee PSM related quality improvement activities. This may include collaboration with the cognizant process engineer(s).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions of the job include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Prepare aerospace commercial and/or military hardware manufacturing and repair quality documents such as inspection standard operating procedures, in-process inspection and test plans, AS9102 FAIR packages, process controls plans, and customer certificates of conformance in conjunction with the cognizant Manufacturing Engineer
  • Measure and report process performance for all specified Key Product Characteristics (KPCs)
  • Lead or support all root cause/corrective action activities related to aerospace hardware and processes
  • Responsible for the review of all aerospace-specific nonconforming material reports (NCRs), supplier corrective action reports (SCARS), corrective action reports (CARs), and relevant rework or repair processes and inspection and test plans
  • Responsible for the generation, communication, and closure of all customer material review board (MRB) activity
  • Responsible for gage suitability analysis, calibration duration specification, training, and monitoring of all measurement and test equipment (MTE)
  • Support periodic internal audits to ensure continued compliance with all regulatory and customer-specified quality system-related requirements (ISO9001, AS9100, ASQR-01, etc.) 
  • Support all continuous improvement activities in conjunction with the cognizant Manufacturing or Process Engineer
  • Coordinate with department/process owners in determining the source of quality, cost, or delivery concerns and ensure timely remedial action is taken 
  • Identify relevant industry standard inspection-related training needs and identify or develop training criteria
  • Ensure inspection and test plans and procedures are properly understood, carried out, and evaluated by the inspection and production staff
  • Support the determination of product defects causes and assist in the development of methods for reducing their occurrence 
  • Prepare reports of quality and process trends, corrective action item status, audit results, and other performance measures 
  • Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science or Engineering or a related field; or at least 5 years of relevant experience. 
  • Complete Specific on-the-job training towards meeting essential duties and work area performance criteria. 
  •  Must complete EHS-assigned regulatory training for the work area as described by PSM’s EHS Training Matrix.

Skills and Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in Quality, Manufacturing, or Process Engineering discipline in the aerospace industry
  • Prior experience working under formal environments such as ISO 9001, AS9100, ASQR-01, NADCAP, or FAR145
  • Must be able to interpret blueprints and have a working knowledge of GD&T  
  • Must be able to read, analyze, and interpret common technical publications, reports, and other documents related to Quality or Engineering disciplines
  • Must be a detailed oriented, high-energy, self-starter with the ability to drive the successful completion of complex projects within aggressive time frames
  • Must have the flexibility to function comfortably in all inspection and technical aspects of the manufacturing/overhaul process
  • Strong communication, decision-making, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office, Word, Excel, Project, and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles, process control, Six Sigma (or similar methodology), and have been responsible or part of teams tasked with improving product quality. 
  • Knowledge of other aspects of aerospace component manufacturing, such as NDT, machining, welding, heat treating, braze, forming, or assembly.
  • Ability to travel both domestically and internationally.
