Position Summary:
The Chemical Process Engineer at PCC Mason will be responsible for design, development, implementation, and optimization of chemical manufacturing processes such as coatings, surface treatments and cleaning processes for aerospace fasteners. The incumbent will play a key role in ensuring process reliability, product quality, safety, and environmental compliance.
The Chemical Process Engineer will work cross-functionally with operations, quality, and engineering teams to develop best practices, procedures, and techniques, to support the implementation of highly automated, safety-oriented processes in an innovative manufacturing environment.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and improve chemical processes used in manufacturing (e.g., anodizing, coating, etching, surface treatment, cleaning, etc.).
- Develop and maintain process documentation including SOPs, PFMEAs, Risk assessments & safe chemical handling procedures.
- Monitor and analyze chemical process parameters to identify and resolve quality, yield, or efficiency issues.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Engineering, Quality, Operations, EH&S) to scale up new materials and technologies.
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations (e.g., NADCAP, AS9100, REACH, RoHS) and company safety standards.
- Lead root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for process deviations or failures.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives using Lean and Six Sigma (SPC) methodologies.
- Support audits and provide technical input for customers and regulatory inquiries.
- Develop and manage process Safety and environmental programs for waste disposal and waste filtration.
- Perform Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA) and develop Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis (PFMEA) on new production processes.
- Maintain and improve supplier vendor quality to include material reviews, audits, corrective actions, and continuous improvement.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with NADCAP-accredited processes.
- Knowledge of environmental regulations related to chemical handling and waste treatment.
- Prior experience working with chemicals such as molten salt, acids (hydrofluoric, sulphuric, nitric, etc.) in a safe manner is a plus.
- Prior experience conducting manual & automated titrations, PH measurements & other process metrics to maintain process chemistry.
- Prior experience in specification, purchase, acquisition, runoff & installation of capital equipment for chemical processes preferred.
Qualification:
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Chemical Engineering or related field.
- 2–5+ years of experience in chemical process engineering, preferably in aerospace, defense, or high-tech manufacturing.
- Strong understanding of surface treatment processes such as anodizing, coatings, chemical etching & cleaning processes such as molten salt bath, etc.
- Experience with statistical process control (SPC), root cause analysis (RCA), and failure mode analysis (FMEA).
- Proficient in engineering software tools and data analysis (e.g., Minitab, MATLAB, Excel).
- Excellent communication, project management, and team collaboration skills.
Working Conditions:
- This position typically spends 50 of work time on the production floor and 50 of work time in an office environment.
- Intermittent exposure to moderate noise in a indoor manufacturing environment.
- Occasional travel to other facilities within PCC, Vendor & training sites required.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to thirty-five (35) pounds on an intermittent basis.
- Must be able to stand, walk, bend, squat, climb, kneel, twist and work at heights on an intermittent basis.
- Requires hand manipulation including simple grasping, pushing, and pulling of materials.
- Must be able to reach and work above and below the shoulder level.
- Must be able to work with and around forklifts and hazardous machinery.
- Must be able to wear all the required Personal Protective Equipment.
