GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Production Engineering Manager is responsible for the program management of all issues related to production castings including continuous improvement and cost reduction activities. Helps to identify and manages assigned resources to support customer engineering requirements, achieve cost reduction targets and implement lead-time and quality improvements. Responsible for communicating production engineering issues with customers and the Planning, Manufacturing and Sales departments and supervises the CAD/CAI Engineering Team.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Effective, thorough and timely completion of essential job functions according to all approved operating procedures while contributing as leader in a professional, team-based work environment
  • Identify a cost-reduction pipeline and manage improvement projects for production parts and processes to reduce MRB activity and meet plant efficiency & profitability targets
  • Perform contract review to ensure customer requirements are met
  • Perform analyses of cost performance and generate action plans to continually reduce costs while maintaining quality
  • Determine feasibility of design changes and manage the timely implementation of customer-driven Reports of Change
  • Works with manufacturing team to develop repair processes and procedures and to eliminate root causes of deviations
  • Supervise, coordinate, and monitor the work of the CAD/CAI Engineering staff; schedule and assign projects to meet completion dates
  • Identify systemic issues and assist in the creation and implementation of solutions
  • Solve problems using root cause analysis techniques
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external contacts regarding engineering or process related technical issues
  • Communicate with and as necessary, visit customers to work concurrent engineering and cost savings design improvements
  • Perform Production Dimensional Engineering duties as required to support the needs of the business
  • Consistent attention to detail in all tasks performed
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to multitask and effectively lead projects involving the direction of other team members with limited supervision
  • Ability to effectively define, plan, prioritize and coordinate tasks in order to complete projects correctly and on time
  • Consistent, clear, concise and professional written and verbal communication skills at all levels
  • Ability to effectively interface with engineering team members, customers, manufacturing operators, supervisors, managers and outside vendors
  • Ability to visualize three-dimensionally
  • Ability to distill technical requirements from customer specifications, purchase orders, digital product definitions and drawings
  • Ability to perform and coach others through root cause analyses and the determination of corrective actions
  • Ability to identify systemic issues and develop recommendations and plans for process and system improvements
  • Thorough technical knowledge of machining, fixturing, and the investment casting process
  • Proficiency in 6-Sigma problem solving methodologies, Statistical Process Control, Theory of Constraints and Lean Manufacturing concepts
  • Proficiency in application of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (ASME Y14.5) concepts
  • Consistent demonstration of sound and informed engineering decision making based upon analysis of data
  • Self-directed with the ability to motivate and affect change with a diversity of people
  • Proficiency in mathematics, algebra, and geometry

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Advanced capability using the following software: MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, Minitab, EPMS, DPC
  • Intermediate capability using the following software:, MS Outlook, MS Access
  • BS in Mechanical, Industrial, Metallurgical Engineering, or related field
  • Minimum of five years of demonstrated success in an engineering role in the investment casting industry and two successful years in a supervisory role

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to read, communicate, write, type and operate office equipment
  • Ability to exert up to 35 pounds of force to move an object
  • Ability to work effectively in an environment with multiple employees in one area
  • Ability to work in an environment with exposure to noise, dust, chemicals and varying temperatures
