Position Overview:

The Boeing Defense, Space, and Security Division is seeking an Engineering Technician with experience in Printed Circuit Board soldering, cable assembly, and board schematics to support the hardware, firmware and software development of electro-optical systems at the Starfire Optical Range, Kirtland AFB, NM.

This position supports the R&D mission of the Air Force Research Laboratory Optics Division in their advancement of Space Domain Awareness capabilities.  The site houses telescope research facilities ranging in size from 0.5m up to 3.5m with advanced optical systems. This candidate would work as part of a multidisciplinary team supporting the development, optimization and maintenance of embedded electro-mechanical pointing and tracking control systems.
 

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Printed Circuit Board soldering.

  • Tracking and maintenance of an extensive electronic parts inventory.

  • Perform Printed Circuit Board and electronic system assembly.

  • Building up mechanical/electronic systems to include packaging decisions, interconnecting wiring, power supplies, etc.

  • Support design engineers and the organization’s mission requests to meet ongoing project requirements in a timely manner.

  • Assist engineers in troubleshooting system issues to correcting possible issues.

  • Build up cable assemblies required for electronic systems.

  • Prepare newly assembled Printed Circuit Boards/systems with required programming and calibrations for proper operation.

  • Procure and track the purchase of system parts, boards, enclosures, cables, etc.

This position is expected to be 100 onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position requires the ability to obtain U.S. Security Clearance, for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. A final U.S. Top Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.


 Basic Qualifications (Required Skills and Experience):

  • Prior soldering experience to include surface mount soldering.

  • Prior experience working with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

  • Prior experience Printed Circuit Board design and assembly.

  • Prior experience testing and troubleshooting electronic equipment

  • Prior experience in building prototype test equipment hardware (cable assemblies, chassis, racks, circuit cards, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Advanced extensive soldering experience to include surface mount soldering (SOIC’s, QFP’s, PLCC’s, BGA/reflow, etc.).

  • Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Word and Excel to be able to maintain and improve existing parts inventory databases.

  • Ability to use Microsoft Visio, for building system diagrams and assembly aids.

  • Advanced knowledge in Printed Circuit Board Design, to be able to inspect and troubleshoot boards for mistakes and electrical failure.

  • Ability to unsolder failing electronic board parts and replace them correctly.

  • Familiarity with schematic architectures (flat, hierarchical) to be able to basically navigate a board design.

  • Ability to use computer board design software (like PADs) to create schematics, and possibly layout a printed circuit board.

  • Ability to be given a mechanical project and be able to meet given requirements with little assistance.

  • Have active experience in using basic test equipment like voltmeters, oscilloscopes, etc.

  • Basic knowledge of power supplies and system grounding.

  • Active U.S Top Secret clearance.

Typical Education/Experience

Associate (Level 2): Education/experience typically acquired through advanced education (e.g. Associate) and typically 1 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience (e.g. Bachelor, 3 years related work experience, etc.).

Experienced (Level 3): Education/experience typically acquired through advanced education (e.g. Associate) and typically 3 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience (e.g. Bachelor+1 years related work experience, 5 years related work experience, etc.).

Relocation

Relocation assistance is not a negotiable benefit for this position. Candidates must live in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense.

Summary pay range - Associate (level 2): $47,600 - $64,400

Summary pay range - Experienced (level 3): $55,250 - $74,750
