JOB OVERVIEW
The Instructional Designer is responsible for preparing instructor led and LMS ready training materials on a wide variety of topics and technical subjects. These activities constitute most of the time for this role.
Responsible for course instructional design / development or re-development / update, as required. Projects and prioritization are determined by the Training Services Manager.
The person in this role can expect to be teaching or facilitating when operational requirements of the business allow for in-person, virtual training, or OJT sessions as needed.
Note: The Training Coordinator sets the training schedule (in conjunction with the Manager, Training Services) based on a combination of training requests, pending expirations, and operational staff availability
Course Development
- Assess requirements, evaluate, review, work with subject matter experts, develop and implement instructor lead training programs and eLearning courseware as required / requested, evaluate course and learning effectiveness.
The Instructional Designer will develop technical and certification courses in the following areas:
- Technical and regulatory training (eg.MRO documentation, MEL, ACA, etc.)
- Approved Training Organization (ATO) ‘type’ course development and redevelopment.
- Health and safety courses (eg. Confined, fall protection, etc.)
- Mobile equipment training (Aerial work platforms, tug operation, fuel truck, forklifts, etc.)
- General courses (Human Factors, Supervisory Skills, Leadership, Regulatory updates)
Course Delivery
Deliver instructor led or operations-based training, including OJT qualification or certification; lead blended learning training. May train and qualify deployed training instructors / staff to allow them to teach locally on technical or safety topics.
REQUIREMENTS
- Must have an instructional design / development background
- Instructional background and / or qualification (eg. PIDP or similar) would be beneficial
- Formal qualification / education in adult learning or suitable experience
- Aviation experience / certification is preferred or work experience in a highly regulated work environment
- Qualification / certification in one or more of the course development areas listed above would be an asset.
- Excellent presentation skills interpersonal communication skills, customer service
- Proficiency in – Microsoft Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc., Adobe Acrobat (or similar)
- Proficiency in course authoring applications (eg. Articulate, Composica, Captivate, Lectora)

LOCATION
The successful incumbent would be based in our Kelowna, BC office.
During the six-month probation period, this role is 100 on-site, after which a hybrid option (up to two days from home) is available.
SALARY
The salary range for this role is $67,500 - $84,500 annually. The expertise and technical skill level of the candidate is assessed during the selection process for placement within the band. Note: The salary range maximum signifies full job knowledge.
