Job Description:
Serves as Engineering Technician (Team Lead) and principal technical specialist for complex depot level component repair and fabrication of mechanical equipment to support all NAS systems. This position has quasi supervisory duties as such: approves emergency and short-term leave up to 3 days, provides input to employee performance and or conduct and discipline issues, sets team priorities, assigns tasks, coaches and develops employees. Performs work of broad scope and complexity on NAS systems. Applies comprehensive knowledge of complex techniques, theories and characteristics to execute complex depot level component repair and fabrication of mechanical equipment to support all NAS Surveillance, Navigation, Landing, Weather, Automation, and Communication systems utilized by ATC to maintain the safety of the flying public. Applies broad experience and comprehensive technical knowledge of assigned disciplines, specialties and understanding of new technologies and methods to provide the highest organizational level technical support to NAS customers.

Is considered a technical expert within the organization for the assigned system or specialty area.
Work directly supports the objectives of the organization and the safe and continual operation of
the NAS. Contacts are both internal and external. Often represents the organization as a primary
technical point of contact on projects, programs, and other work activities to coordinate and
implement plans or to obtain information and resolve problems. Coordinates with other organizations
and agencies concerned with FAA activities. Often oversees the activities of contractors.

Receives general program assignments from a supervisor or higher-level manager. Assignments are
stated in terms of priorities, overall objectives, and boundaries. Completed assignments are
considered technically authoritative and are reviewed only for general compliance with
organizational objectives. Identifies resources needed to perform assignments. Organizes and
assigns resources needed to accomplish large work activities within established schedules. Provides
guidance to other technicians and trainees regarding different technical or operational issues.
Independently resolves all but unique technical problems. Interprets and adapts technical manuals,
manufacturers instructions, FAA policies and procedures, and other publications. Work is reviewed
for compliance with established policies and sound technical and programmatic judgment.

Follows established security practices in accordance with Agency and AJW-L policies and
regulations. Reports security violations to the appropriate manager or security officials.

  • Successful completion of a security investigation may be required.
  • A one-year probationary period may be required.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position at the FV-I (FG/GS-13) level, you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to FV-H (FG/GS-12). Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position.

Specialized Experience includes experience with electromechanical practices and procedures. Experience with work which directly supports the objectives of the organization involving the safe and continual operation of the NAS. Experience leading a technical team within a Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (MRO) setting.

AND

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Employee must be capable of heavy lifting (at least 45 pounds),
pulling hand over hand, climbing, use of legs and arms, crawling, kneeling, depth perception,
operating a crane, truck, or motor vehicle. Employee may be required to work outside in excessive cold, heat, humidity, dust solvents (degreasing agents) and on slippery or uneven walking surfaces.
