Our site near Culpeper, VA, in beautiful, rural Orange County (1.5 hours from Washington, DC) is growing! This site is our center of excellence for Solid Rocket Motor Propulsion manufacturing and Energetics development as well as high-complexity production programs. Without appreciable direction, the Lead, Process Engineer applies expertise to directly contribute to the development of new processes for the manufacturing of polymer-based composite materials through the application of manufacturing concepts and techniques. This position exercises considerable latitude in determining objectives and approaches to assignments, works closely with external suppliers of equipment and materials, conducts and oversees experiments and trials, analyzes results and develops/presents information to leadership.
Essential Functions:
- Plan, conduct, and technically direct projects or major phases of significant project assignment.
- Coordinates the efforts of technical support staff and suppliers in the performance of assigned projects.
- Application of the Scientific Method, Design of Experiments, and statistical analysis principles.
- Interprets analytical and experimental data to forecast the significance of the conclusions reach on future related work.
- Develops and review statements of work, requirements documents, and performance specifications for compliance with L3Harris safety protocols and US Government safety regulations.
- Ability to travel 25 within the US.
- Ability to obtain a US security clearance.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 9 years of prior process/manufacturing engineering experience.
- Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior process/manufacturing engineering experience.
- In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior process/manufacturing engineering experience.
- 4 years of experience with manufacturing mixing plastics, polymers, and/or polymer-based compositions.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Chemical or Polymer Engineering degree or combination of chemistry degree with and engineering experience degree is preferred.
- Working knowledge of the application of DOD 4145.26M and associated supporting documentation is preferred.
- Project management experience a plus.
- Experience with energetic materials a plus.
- Experience with MS Project a plus.
- Experience working in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience planning, documenting results of experiments, and recommending next steps.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
