Akima Systems Engineering is seeking a Network Engineer (Intermediate) to support operations at Shaw Air Force Base, SC. The Network Engineer provides Tier 2 network engineering support, responsible for the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of enterprise network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, and associated network services across NIPRNET and SIPRNET environments. This role includes diagnosing and resolving network incidents, performing configuration management, implementing approved changes, and ensuring compliance with DoD cybersecurity policies, including RMF and DISA STIG requirements. The Network Engineer supports network monitoring tools, analyzes performance metrics, and proactively identifies and mitigates potential issues to maintain mission continuity and high availability. The position requires coordination with Service Desk, Systems Administration, and Cybersecurity teams to ensure timely escalation and resolution of network-related tickets, as well as participation in outage response, root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective actions. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to operate in a high-tempo environment are essential.
Excellent communication and customer service skills are required to support both technical teams and end users. The place of performance for this role is on-site at USARCENT G6 on Shaw Air Force Base in Sumter, SC.
Responsibilities
- provide O&M, monitoring, and administrative support to the classified (Secret Internet Protocol Router Network (SIPRNET)) and unclassified (Non- classified Internet Protocol Router Network (NIPRNET)); and up to three additional networks (e.g. CENTCOM Partner Network-X (CPN-X), Battlefield Information Collection and Exploitation Systems (BICES)) networks installed at Patton Hall, General Officer quarters, and USARCENT occupied facilities on Shaw Air Force Base. Shall provide the required maintenance to support the additional networks which includes patching at floor ports and communication rooms, activation of ports on the switch, and applying Virtual Local Area Networks (VLAN) to the ports, which includes the patching of network devices.
- provide secure communications technical support to conduct Command and Control (C2). The support will include Tier 2 support and maintenance of Continental United States (CONUS), fly-away capabilities for IT equipment used by the CG and the command staff. The Contractor shall support the AnyConnect phones as well as providing technical support and provide services to the off-post quarters.
- provide technical support in the connection of dedicated point- to- point data circuits. The Contractor shall comply with network security policies and security system configurations including the DISA STIG, bulletins, advisories, RCC-SWA directives, and IA policies during the configuration of devices. The Contractor shall also maintain the Durosuite inspection tool so long as it is supported to assist IA with STIG compliance monitoring, and make any relevant changes presented by IA to maintain compliance.
- install Government purchased software and hardware and maintain network Local Area Network (LAN) cables, copper and fiber-optic, limited to the server rooms, communications closets, and closet-to-desk segment. Also, the Contractor shall install prefabricated cables to existing ports at workstations.
- maintain port security on all user facing ports within Patton Hall and the USARCENT controlled outbuildings unless the port has been identified as not requiring it. Port security will be certificate based and use a Cisco Identity Service Engine (ISE) as a radius server. and log port security devices on a designated logging server. The Contractor shall utilize the Army Registry of Networks and Layer-3 Devices (ARNLD).
- configure, fill, and maintain and upgrade the encryption devices used to provide secured communications. The Government will provide the COMSEC material.
- provide Network Operating System installation and configuration, health monitoring, backups and restoration, and non-compliance reporting mandated by Department of Defense Instruction 8500.2 (DODI 8500.2) and NIST Special Publication 800-53 (SP 800-53).
- maintain the network including installing new network devices, implementing, and changing configuration as needed or directed to by the USARCENT G6, Internetwork operating system (IOS), Nexus operating system (NX-OS) and Internetwork operating system execution environment (IOS-XE) upgrades to the routing and switching devices. Health monitoring, backup and restoration, and alert and event reporting.
- manage Collaboration Tools to allow instant messaging, room-base chat capabilities, voice (e.g. Jabber) and the ability to share documents, PowerPoint slides, photos and spreadsheets on the designated USARCENT network
- support the management of up to three additional networks (e.g. CPN-X, BICES). The Contractor shall support two additional transportation networks (BlackCore and Gait) as well as provide touch labor and technical assistance for multiple other networks and devices throughout Patton Hall, General Officer quarters, and USARCENT occupied facilities on Shaw Air Force Base.
- provide VoIP and VoSIP technical support for USARCENT change management, engineering, design and configuration technologies. The Contractor shall comply with NETCOM or any other authoritative documents pertaining to VoIP and VoSIP.
- provide the USARCENT G6, technical support concerning change management, integration standards and engineering design supporting the command’s IP (Internet Protocol) telephony voice communication services architecture and its associated network connections and component hardware. Support functions include collaboration with the G6 designated representatives and fellow network services engineers in developing and executing a multi–year, enterprise VoIP and VoSIP infrastructure technology strategy and implementation. The Contractor shall document the VoIP/VoSIP infrastructure to ensure compliance and to adhere to USARCENT polices and guidelines.
- provide technical support, installation, and upgrades for the unified communications management suite.
- provide support and monitoring of the network infrastructure that includes the public switched telephone network (PSTN) SIP Trunks to the 20th Communications Squadron and DISA to enable access to local and long-distance telephone calls and teleconferencing for VoIP and VoSIP.
- install, operate and maintain the voicemail system to enable end user access to voicemail messaging capabilities along with automated interactive response to incoming calls.
- shall provide 24 hour on-call support for network outages, and 24 hour on-duty technical network support during USARCENT exercise missions and future mission development.
- maintain rack inventory diagrams of all the equipment that is under their control in the Network Operations Center (NOC) including the Rack Unit, Identifying Numbers, Make, and Model of devices. Deliverable to USARCENT G6 leadership and the COR, no later than (NLT) sixty (60) days after any modifications of the network.
- maintain the license complaint state of the Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM) and the Cisco Identity Service Engine (ISE) through the use Cisco Smart Software Manager (CSSM) Servers on SIPRNET and NIPRNET, so long as the services are required and G6 Purchases the licenses before their expiration period.
- establish and conduct network and server monitoring program with approved software and/or hardware on the approved products list to align with RCC-SWA Network Operations (NETOPS) capabilities. These tools provide analysis of network equipment and bandwidth utilization of NIPRNET, SIPRNET, and up to three additional networks (e.g. CPN-X, BICES). The monitoring programs shall provide situational awareness on USARCENT G6 assets for monitoring and identify problems, potential problems, inefficiencies, and bottlenecks.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2-4 years of experience of IT Network Administration / IT Network Engineering
- DOD NIPR/SIPR Experience
- Required CompTIA Network + Certification (Preferred CCNA).
- Active Secret Clearance.
