Advance Clean Energy Innovation – Research & Development (R&D) Engineer

PDS Tech Commercial is seeking a highly motivated and technically skilled R&D Engineer to support cutting-edge research in air purification, catalysis, thermal management, and fuel cell technologies. This is a hands-on, lab-based role ideal for engineers with strong experience in gas processing, lab operations, and data analysis.

About the Role
As an R&D Engineer, you’ll work onsite at our client’s facility in Des Plaines, IL to design, build, and test chemical and material prototypes. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive innovation from early design through commercialization, while analyzing data to uncover key performance insights and support customer-focused development.

Key Responsibilities

Support R&D efforts in air purification, catalysis, thermal management, and fuel cell technologies
Design, build, and test chemical materials, subsystem prototypes, and gas/liquid test stands
Analyze experimental data to identify critical performance factors and scientific insights
Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and project teams to drive development
Communicate findings to project leads, leadership, and customers
Operate within planned schedules and budgets
Contribute to safety and environmental stewardship programs
Support external funding opportunities and customer relationships

What You Bring
Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field
Strong experience in gas processing, lab operations, and data analysis

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of chemical analysis and material characterization techniques
Experience with real-time operating systems and embedded systems
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively across global teams
Familiarity with safety protocols and process technology
Experience in cross-functional R&D environments

This position requires use of information or access to facilities subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and/or Export Administration Regulations (EAR). Pay Details: $35.00 per hour
