Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a SDS Principal Instructional Systems Designer/Sr Principal Instructional Systems Designer. This position is located in Roy, UT and supports the Strategic Deterrent System (SDS) Division. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.
What You Will Do:
This individual will be responsible for working with subject matter experts (SMEs) to develop new learning products for multiple disciplines, evaluating and improving existing learning products, collaborating with multiple teams to identify current and future training/knowledge/skill gaps, and administering learning management systems. The selected candidate will have demonstrated experience applying contemporary adult learning theories and process-driven development to create a variety of learning materials for multiple disciplines, audiences, and modalities. In particular, the candidate will have extensive experience creating remote/asynchronous/web-based/interactive learning materials. Additionally, the candidate will have a strong track record of collaboration and contribute to future curriculum development.
Essential Functions:
Create a wide variety of learning materials, ranging from microlearning products to interactive online courses to on-the-job certifications courses.
Analyze and evaluate training/knowledge/skill gaps to identify and develop appropriate learning solutions.
Design and develop learning products for multiple modalities, including online, in-person, and hybrid, as well as synchronous and asynchronous formats.
Develop criteria for evaluating learning product efficacy and rigor.
Demonstrate and utilize effective needs analysis, project management, course development, and evaluation skills.
Administer GLX courses, curricula, certifications, enrollments, roles, and smart lists.
Keeps abreast of training and development research: learning theory, motivation theory, and new materials, methods, and techniques.
Develops in-house programs and practices to identify developmental needs, including preparing personnel for more responsible positions and increasing effectiveness in present assignments.
May evaluate and/or oversee contractors or vendors to develop and/or administer training programs.
This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.
Basic Qualifications:
Principal Instructional Systems Designer: 5 Years with Bachelors in Science; 3 Years with Masters; 1 Year with PhD. An additional 4 years of experience may be considered lieu of degree.
Sr Principal Instructional Systems Designer: 8 Years with Bachelors in Science; 6 Years with Masters; 4 Years with PhD. An additional 4 years of experience may be considered lieu of degree.
Must have U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain U.S. DoD Secret Level clearance.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Experience developing learning materials for technical disciplines.
Experience developing technology-based learning products.
Experience applying adult learning theories and process-driven instructional design principles.
Ability to travel 10 of the time.
Preferred Qualifications:
Active DoD Secret clearance.
Curriculum design experience.
Familiarity with SAFe (Agile) business development framework.
Experience with digital instructional design software (e.g., Camtasia, Storyline, Adobe Captivate/Creative Suite).
Multimedia design experience (audio/video editing, 2D/3D design, animation, software simulation, etc.).
Global LX administrator experience, including class, catalog, curriculum, and certificate privileges.
Understanding of SDS organization, its programs, and associated disciplines.

Salary Range: $84,200 - $126,400
Salary Range 2: $104,400 - $156,600
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidates experience, education, skills and current spanet conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
