Job SummaryThe Senior Systems Engineer is accountable for applying technical knowledge to internationally deployed air traffic control/management software, preparing designs and specifications to meet operational requirements, completing large and small projects via the implementation of change requests, and providing technical expertise for life-cycle enhancements of the customer systems and equipment.
The Senior Systems Engineer possesses specialized knowledge of the client’s operational air traffic management systems. This knowledge is supplemented with significant experience working on their design and life-cycle support, and requires a thorough understanding of the interrelationship between different system interfaces, and their operational use.

Key Accountabilities:
Work in partnership with technologists, software developers, and testers in requirements management, analysis, design, and life cycle support of enhancements to Extended Computer Display System (EXCDS) and related systems
Provide technical advice and system support to life cycle management and development teams, as well as domestic and international stakeholders
Define, analyze, review, and manage system requirements
Raise and triage of defects, and participation in defect management activities
Provide accurate and timely response to critical customer service support and change requests
Leads the preparation and maintenance detailed plans, system designs, and specifications to ensure the implementation of EXCDS and related systems meets operational, technical, and safety requirements
Reviews and provides technical approval of design documents and the validation of test plans, test cases, and test reports
Supports testing activities related to software updates and software certification activities
Leads studies and investigations in technical topics related to Air Traffic Management (ATM) systems to develop new solutions for unresolved problems
Provides technical support for project definition
Provides prompt assistance to investigate technical problems with in-service operational systems
Advise on functional requirements, assist in conducting cost and scope analysis of customer change requests
Actively promotes and contributes to a Safety and Quality culture within the team
Job Requirements
Education:
Experience:
A minimum of 5 years progressive experience in systems engineering
Experience working in the development and testing of mission-critical systems
Experience in a collaborative environment working with cross-functional teams
Experience in the application of safety and quality management systems
Experience with system documentation and working with clients to gather requirements and design specs
Experience preparing verification procedures
Knowledge:
Strong knowledge of software system development, integration and testing process, from preliminary design to formal testing and acceptance
Knowledge of system engineering principles and methodologies
Knowledge of Air Navigation System and overall system architecture and functionality including air traffic management systems
Knowledge of mission-critical software applications and systems
Knowledge of safety and quality standards
Abilities:
Ability to write and review technical specifications, standards, statements of work and other documents
Ability to capture and document requirements clearly
Ability to work under pressure, prioritize, and manage multiple priorities with tight or conflicting deadlines in a fast paced environment
Ability to research potential development solutions and best practices and to learn new technologies, domains, and tools
Ability to analyse and synthesize technical information, interpret the results of studies, develop strategies, and present recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences
Creative and innovative approach to solving problems
Ability to communicate and collaborate and establish effective working relations within cross functional teams and with external stakeholders, with tact and diplomacy

Working conditions:
Hybrid: This position is based at the Ottawa Technical Systems Center (280 Hunt Club Rd., Ottawa, ON Canada) but may be eligible for a flexible work arrangement.
