Role Description
• The Procurement Group Leader will play a critical role in leading strategic supplier management across the Capability Insertion Training & Manpower team and the Procurement Service Delivery Unit.
• This includes managing, amongst others, delivering complex development & support programmes, whilst supporting the development of the long term Training & Manpower strategy.
• You will be responsible for managing performance, driving value for money and aligning procurement strategy with wider business and customer requirements.
• The role involves regular stakeholder engagement and influencing at senior levels internally and externally.
Core Duties
Typical duties include (but are not limited to):
• Act as the Procurement Business Partner for the Training Category working with the Business to develop and strategically influence the Training growth agenda
• Lead strategic procurement activities across an international supply base for all Air platforms and programmes
• Lead strategic engagements with international customer facing teams (e.g. Europe, Middle East, South East Asia)
• Deliver value-for-money sourcing solutions that meet current and future requirements.
• Negotiate commercial terms, contracts and price agreements with suppliers.
• Drive supplier risk mitigation, obsolescence management and supply chain resilience.
• Support affordability and cost-reduction initiatives through continuous improvement.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, commercial, legal, programmes and finance teams.
• Represent Procurement in internal and external governance activities.
• Travel to supplier and customer sites as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications
Knowledge:
Essential:
• Demonstrated experience of supplier relationship and performance management.
• Continuous improvement mindset with examples of value delivery.
• Strong understanding of supplier risk and opportunity management.
• Experience of dealing with volatile stakeholders and managing conflict.
• Experience of working on UK, European and Export bids and campaigns.
Desirable Skills:
• Experience in complex programme procurement environments, including capability development and insertion.
• Knowledge of aerospace or defence sector supplier strategies.
• Understanding of governance and life cycle management
Skills:
Essential:
• Strong negotiation, commercial and contract management skills.
• Excellent collaboration and communication abilities, with a focus on building trusted relationships.
• Comfortable working with ERP systems and Microsoft Office tools.
• Confident in compiling, analysing and presenting procurement data and proposals.
Desirable Skills:
• Prior experience of leading strategic supplier negotiations
Qualifications:
• MCIPS qualified or equivalent
