Trade Compliance Specialist

Contract Position

$50,000 - $60,000/Year Salary

Work with an environmental leader focused on delivering advanced solutions for water, wastewater, and infrastructure challenges. This organization leverages technology and expertise to support sustainable water management practices, helping communities manage resources efficiently and effectively.

Responsibilities:

• Serve as primary point of contact for global trade compliance reporting requirements.

• Ensure compliance with U.S. export/import laws (EAR, ITAR, OFAC) and corporate trade policies across all functional areas.

• Prepare and file Electronic Export Information (EEI) to obtain International Transaction Numbers (ITNs) via ACE.

• Administer export authorization requests and maintain compliance with Export Administration Regulations (EAR).

• Draft, review, and maintain Customs and export/import documentation, including Destination Control Statements (DCS).

• Conduct Denied Party Screenings (DPS) using IDEX PRECISION and government lists for customers, suppliers, and end-users.

• Determine and maintain HTS, ECCN, and Schedule B classifications; retain audit trails and support classification system updates.

• Manage relationships with freight forwarders and customs brokers to ensure accurate and timely shipments.

• Provide trade compliance guidance to management; coordinate with corporate to resolve export/import “red flags.”

• Support internal and external compliance audits, assessments, and remediation plans (e.g., SOX findings).

• Develop, maintain, and distribute import/export compliance procedures and documentation templates.

• Guide staff on customs valuation methods and Country of Origin determination for reporting and product labeling.

• Perform periodic process audits to ensure procedural adherence and regulatory compliance.

• Support other regional operational needs and perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience.

• Working knowledge of U.S. Customs regulations, ITAR, EAR, and OFAC compliance.

• 3+ years experience in export/import compliance, global logistics, or trade operations.

• Proficient in export/import documentation preparation, classification (HTS/ECCN), and denied party screening tools.

• Strong familiarity with Customs Brokerage processes, freight forwarding, and EEI filings.

• Able to work cross-functionally, handle multiple projects, and maintain attention to detail in a dynamic environment.

• On-site in Huntsville, AL or Remote Available
