Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the team lead, the Aircraft Avionics Technician is responsible for installing, troubleshooting, repairing, modifying, testing, and inspecting aircraft electronic systems and components. This includes communication, navigation, and autoflight equipment, ensuring all work meets Transport Canada and company standards.
Technicians in this role support manufacturing, maintenance, and overhaul activities in hangar and production environments.
Main Responsibilities
The Aircraft Avionics Technician performs some or all of the following duties:
- Install, troubleshoot, repair, modify, and test aircraft electronic and electrical systems, including communication, navigation, flight control, and autoflight systems.
- Install and adjust aircraft instruments, wiring, connectors, and avionics components according to drawings, schematics, and engineering documentation.
- Perform functional and operational tests on avionics and electrical systems after installation or repair.
- Calibrate and verify the accuracy of instruments and components to ensure proper operation.
- Support aircraft modification and upgrade projects by installing new systems or integrating equipment.
- Document all work performed and maintain records in accordance with Transport Canada and company policies.
- Collaborate with other technicians, quality inspectors, and engineers to ensure safe and compliant installations.
- Follow safety, quality, and environmental procedures at all times.
Skills and Qualifications
• Diploma or technical training in Avionics, Aircraft Maintenance, Electronics, or Electrical Technology.
• Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in aircraft avionics installation, troubleshooting, or aerospace electrical systems (OEM, MRO, or production environment).
• Strong ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation.
• Skilled in the use of hand tools, crimping tools, multimeters, oscilloscopes, and specialized avionics test equipment.
• Solid understanding of aircraft communication, navigation, autoflight, and electrical systems.
• Experience with wiring harness installation, connectors, terminations, shielding, bonding, and troubleshooting.
• Knowledge of applicable Transport Canada standards and industry best practices related to avionics work.
• Attention to detail, manual dexterity, and ability to maintain high precision under tight tolerances.
• Good teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Commitment to safety, quality, and adherence to aerospace industry standards.
