The Director of Maintenance is responsible for overseeing all aspects of maintenance operations for Upper Limit aviation's fleet at our flight school. This leadership role ensures the safety, airworthiness, and reliability of aircraft through effective management of maintenance personnel, adherence to regulatory standards, and implementation of best practices. The ideal candidate will possess a strong aviation maintenance background, exceptional leadership skills, and a commitment to maintaining the highest safety and operational standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintenance Program Oversight:
- Develop, implement, and manage all maintenance policies, procedures, and schedules in compliance with FAA regulations and manufacturer requirements.
- Ensure all aircraft are maintained to the highest standards of safety, reliability, and airworthiness.
Regulatory Compliance & Record Keeping:
- Ensure adherence to Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations, including FAR Part 43 and Part 91 as applicable.
- Maintain accurate and detailed maintenance records, logs, and reports for all aircraft.
Team Leadership & Management:
- Recruit, train, and supervise licensed maintenance technicians, interns and support staff.
- Foster a positive safety culture emphasizing accountability, continuous learning, and teamwork.
Operational Coordination:
- Coordinate maintenance schedules with flight operations to minimize aircraft downtime.
- Oversee pre-flight inspections, scheduled maintenance, and unscheduled repairs.
Budget & Resource Management:
- Prepare and manage the maintenance department budget.
- Ensure proper inventory control for parts, tools, and supplies.
Safety & Quality Assurance:
- Implement safety protocols and conduct regular audits to ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Investigate and document maintenance discrepancies and incidents.
Continuous Improvement:
- Stay current with industry trends, technological advancements, and regulatory updates.
- Seek opportunities for process improvements and operational efficiencies.
Qualifications:
- FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Mechanic Certification required; Inspection Authorization (IA) preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in Aviation Maintenance, Avionics, or related field is desirable.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in aviation maintenance, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
- Extensive knowledge of FAA regulations and maintenance best practices for general aviation aircraft.
- Experience with Reciprocating Engines
- Sheet metal repair Experience preferred
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to coordinate multiple projects and priorities effectively.
- Experience on Tecnam's & Cessna's is preferred
- Proficiency in maintenance management software and MS Office Suite.
Working Conditions:
- This position requires physical activity, including standing, climbing, and working in hangar and outdoor environments.
- Availability for occasional on-call responsibilities and emergency response.
