Each radar consists of a remote transmit and receive site. All radars are operated from the Consolidated Operations Control Center in Chesapeake, Virginia. Each radar is capable of covering over four million square miles across the Caribbean, Eastern Pacific, Central, and South America with all systems manned and operated 24 hours a day. The ROTHR mission is primarily to track and report the movement of aircraft and ships carrying illicit narcotics from South America toward Central America and the United States.
This is a service contract position Raytheon has with the US Govt. This contract has set non- negotiable rates and this position will pay $39.73/hour. This position is located in Freer, TX.
What You Will Do
- Oversees technical performance of ROTHR Receiver Site and provides written/verbal technical reports, as required. Leads the watch team and exercises independent judgment in oversight of systems level operation and monitoring of ROTHR receiver site equipment.
- Performs systems and network troubleshooting, using complex (and possibly undocumented) test equipment on ROTHR receiver site and communications equipment, consisting of Phased Array Antennae, RF Hardware, Digital Hardware, Microprocessors, Minicomputers, Server Farms, and peripheral equipment. Performs all levels of maintenance beyond capabilities of ROTHR Receive Site Technicians and performs self-inspection of the site on a daily basis.
- Coordinates sub-system status and troubleshooting information with the ROTHR Operations Control Center. Executes tasking from supervisor who may also review work for general compliance with accepted practices. Provides technical training and guidance to lower-level technicians. Coordinates and assists with troubleshooting intra- and inter- site communications and telecommunications circuits.
- Work typically requires the watch lead technician to apply advanced technical knowledge to solve unusually complex problems that typically cannot be solved solely by referencing manufacturers’ manuals or similar documents. Examples of such problems include determining the location and density of circuitry, evaluating electromagnetic radiation, isolating malfunctions using system integration knowledge, and incorporating Investigation Request (IR) engineering changes. Candidate will perform all other related duties as assigned and required.
- Reports directly to the site supervisor and/or site lead when operating on nights, weekends, holidays, or any time a supervisor is not on site. This is a Service Contract position with a set (non-negotiable) hourly rate that also pays a supplemental hourly amount for Health & Welfare.
Qualifications You Must Have
- Graduation in Electronic or Electrical Engineering Technology from technical institute above high school with a minimum curriculum length of two years or Military Technical School with minimum curriculum length of six months.
- Five years of related experience. Ability to use test equipment, and systematic procedures for troubleshooting overhaul, fault isolation, and repair of major electronic systems comprised of receiver and transmitter functions.
- Must have a clean motor vehicle driving record to obtain authorization to operate company vehicles.
- The selected candidate may be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information and have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government issued DoD Secret clearance. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance and to obtain any required Export Authorization.
Qualifications We Prefer
- Five years of specific OTH technology.
- At least one year of technician experience in assembly, overhaul, repair, modification, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of communications, radar or digital electronics systems of the ROTHR radar system.
- Previous or current security clearance.

- This position is located in Freer, Texas. Work schedule will alternate in shifts between 6 am – 6pm and 6pm – 6 am.
