Position Summary:
The Flight Prep Technician performs a wide range of tasks to support final assembly and flight readiness. From inspecting and troubleshooting to working directly with aircraft systems, this role is key to ensuring every aircraft meets airworthiness standards before it leaves the floor.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform assembly operations on mechanical and electronic components such as panels, drawers, cables, and modules
- Follow FAA-approved procedures, OEM manuals, and work instructions for aircraft assembly and repair
- Use hand tools, power tools, hydraulic carts, oxygen equipment, fueling systems, jacks, and tugs
- Conduct continuity checks, inspections, and troubleshooting with Quality and Manufacturing Engineering
- Support operator verification inspections during flight phases or on the production line
- Assemble, disassemble, rework, or test experimental and prototype units
- Align subassemblies using jigs, fixtures, and measuring instruments
- Complete documentation required for manufacturing engineering and FAA compliance
- Submit completed work for in-process and final inspection by Quality Assurance
- Collaborate with teams to identify and implement process improvements
Qualifications:
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- A&P Certification preferred
- Mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, or avionics background a strong plus
Experience:
- Minimum 2 years of experience in mechanical, electrical, or aircraft assembly environments
- Proficient in using blueprints, technical drawings, and work instructions
- Familiarity with riveting, part fabrication, precision tools, and structural repair
- Must be capable of reading specifications, identifying repair steps, and understanding part sequencing
Skills:
- Strong knowledge of air-powered tools, hand tools, and aircraft systems
- Understanding of materials, quality control, and production techniques
- Basic to intermediate troubleshooting skills
- Ability to work on multiple shifts and adapt to schedule changes
- Excellent teamwork, safety awareness, and communication
Working Conditions:
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-regulation environment
- Must be able to lift, crouch, climb, and operate in tight workspaces
- Must meet OSHA, FAA, and EPA requirements for PPE, respirators, and safety compliance
- Subject to random drug and alcohol testing under FAA guidelines
