Job Summary
A Principal CAD Surface Designer is responsible for developing class A surfaces for interior surfaces or exterior aerodynamic surfaces to achieve the highest quality designs for engineering new product development. In this role, you will create models and detailed production drawings of components and assemblies using Creo Parametric.
Duties and Responsibilities/Essential Functions
- Bridge requirements between aero dynamic, cosmetic and engineering design elements with surfacing and 3d model designs.
- Work directly with Engineering to complete new designs and modifications, incorporate engineering change orders and release detailed drawing packages
- Create and revise class A surface, solid models and detailed drawings of complex components and assemblies using ICEM, and Creo Parametric
- Manage, promote and release engineering data using Windchill PDMLink
- Help create and develop new digital design tools for the team, to ensure design methods continue evolving
- Mentor junior team members as deemed necessary and when requested fully supervise team members, managing projects, assigning tasks, checking surface quality and giving guidance, preferred
- Regularly review all data for quality and use of “best modeling practice” as defined by Cirrus, providing feedback as needed, preferred
- Take active measures to ensure data deliveries are met on time managing resources as deemed necessary.
Qualifications

- 18+ years of related experience.
- Associates degree or greater in Mechanical Design, Industrial Design, or a related field with an emphasis on Advanced 3D CAD Surface modeling
- High level Advanced 3D CAD Surfacing; consumer centered design, Class A surfacing preferred
- The ability to translate design intent into high quality 3D CAD surfaces from point clouds, surfacing software exports, and sketches.
- Proficient planning and organization skills, initiative, accountability, and a strong attention to detail
- At least two years experience using Creo Parametric preferred
- Relatable experience in ICEM (preferred), SolidWorks, Catia, Rhino, and Alias
- Experience using Windchill PDMLink preferred,
- Strong understanding of top-down modeling principles and practices
- Proficiency in geometric dimensioning and tolerance
- A comprehensive understanding of carbon and glass reinforced composites or other material selection and impact on surfacing opportunities, preferred,
- Ability to work effectively with others in a cross functional organization
- Competent computer database, spreadsheet, presentation, and word processing abilities
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Effective interpersonal skills

Payband: From $121,760.00 USD to $182,640.00 USD
