Summary:
The employee shall independently perform composite manufacturing tasks by applying prior experience and following all applicable instructions, engineering drawings, specifications, standard practices, and recognized industry methods. Responsibilities include executing the operations required to produce prototype and production?level composite parts, components, and assemblies.
The employee will also collaborate closely with engineering personnel to develop and refine techniques, tooling, processes, and procedures necessary to manufacture new, complex, or modified composite parts, components, and assemblies.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lead the shift start meetings daily and complete the end of shift paperwork and reports as reuired. Assist Supervisors in daily tasks and activities to complete the shift delivery objectives.  
  • Aerostructures assembly tasks to include: Uses hand, power and machine tools to facilitate preparation, cleaning and manufacturing processes of molds, equipment, parts, assemblies, or machinery.  Equipment used may include hand knife, automated power or hand cutters, hydraulic and/or vacuum form presses, rivet guns, drills, disc sanders, routers, and/or machine shop equipment.
  • Aligns, fits, and joins parts, using mechanical fasteners, and/or adhesives.
  • Follows standard and/or prototype operating procedures to cut, assemble, shape, bond, lay-up, inject, cure, braid, weave, sew, trim and make simple and/complex repairs to composite assemblies.
  • Operates auxiliary equipment used in the production process such as paint, trim and drill machines, etc. including loading and unloading parts and tools, machine adjustments, and minor machine maintenance.
  • Uses required Perosnal Protective Equipment (PPE) for specified operations and advises other employees on the proper PPE for their work area including setting an excellent safe example for all team members.  Equipment includes but not limited to safety glasses, masks, respirators (note: must be clean shaven and pass PFT test), and gloves and outerwear. Actively participates in safety initiatives, root cause analysis, and preventative measures to contribute to a safe work environment.
  • Records all fabrication or machine operation parameters accurately and legibly in parts manufacturing notebook, routing sheets, resident paper or department documentation or terminals to ensure recording completion of work-in-process, inventories, schedules, labor expenditures, etc.
  • Able to accuratly inspects, measures, and tests products to verify conformance to specifications, using precision measuring instruments. Measurement instruments include but no limited to meters, protractors, venires, micrometers, tapes, tension or weight scales, gages, etc. This may include providing guidance on the proper use and function of measurement devices.
  • Performs Operator Verification/Inpection (OV/I) duties as assigned.
  • Performs as On the Job Trainer (OJT) responsible to train others.
  • Performs a wide range of support activities, including the movement, packaging, protection, and crating of materials, products, equipment, supplies, and other manufacturing?related items. Operates material?handling equipment as required and is responsible for the proper storage, organization, and retrieval of production tooling
  • Maintains a clean work environment (including assigned storage and cleaning duties) in full compliance with all internal, customer and government regulations.
  • Supports the company's commitment to maintain a safe workplace and to protect the environment by adhering to company’s HSE policies and applicable government regulations.
  • Supports the vision and mission for the company and the strategies and processes to meet and exceed the expectations of our customers and management.

  • Performs other assignments and tasks as directed.


Required Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 5+ years of work experience in a fast-pace manufacturing environment or applicable industry experience.  A two (2) year degree in an industrial or manufacturing field may be considered in lieu of two (2) years of work experience.
  • A certified FAA Airframe & Powerplant license (or equivalent military certification) or a Bachelor’s Degree in a industrial or manufacturing field may be considered in lieu of three (3) years of work experience.
  • 3+ year direct experience performing tasks associated with composite fabrication and/or relevant mechanical assembly required. Must show proficiency in assembly technician skills.
  • U.S. Person per ITAR regulations to comply with export compliance. Individuals may also be subject to a background investigation to include but not limited to: criminal history, employment and education verification, drug testing, and creditworthiness.

Additional Qualifications:
  • Basic shop math, including addition, subtraction, decimals and fractions.
  • Basic English reading and writing skills. Must be able to read to follow written and verbal work instructions.
  • Complete OV-Inspector training and certification in a minimum of two OV-Inspection areas. Be able to maintain OV certification.
  • Experience with training, guiding or coaching less experienced personnel in a manufacturing production environment.
  • Knowledge of production methods, shop practice and working quality of composite materials and machine operation.
  • Work from information such as drawings, shop sketches, sample parts, specifications, and engineering instructions.
  • Recognize discrepancies in materials or processes.
  • Use of measuring instruments, such as tape measures or micrometers.
  • Perform a wide range of physical activities, some requiring fine manual dexterity.
  • Mustdemonstrate the ability to lift a minimum of 25 lbs on a regular basis. Must be capable of repetitive bending, twisting, and standing for extended period of time.
  • Knowledge with clean room regulations and requirements.
