Employer is a dynamic and growing Part 91 aircraft maintenance shop specializing in the inspection, repair, and upkeep of single- and multi-engine piston aircraft. We are committed to safety, quality, and professionalism in everything we do.
We are seeking an experienced Vice President/Director of Maintenance Operations to manage day-to-day maintenance operations, ensure regulatory compliance, and lead a team of skilled technicians. This individual will work closely with company leaders to support the company's mission and long-term growth.
Primary Roles & Responsibilities:
Maintenance Operations Management
- Manage overall shop performance to meet operational and financial KPIs, ensuring labor efficiency, productivity, and profitability align with department and company goals.
- Oversee all scheduled and unscheduled maintenance activities to ensure airworthiness and reliability of the aircraft fleet.
- Monitor and maintain maintenance forecasting and scheduling systems.
- Perform root cause analysis and technical evaluations of discrepancies and recommend corrective actions.
- Ensure that all maintenance is carried out in compliance with FAA regulations, manufacturer guidelines, and company procedures.
- Personally perform hands-on maintenance when required to support operations.
Team Leadership & Shop Management
- Supervise, mentor, and oversee tasks assigned to maintenance technicians based on skill levels and certifications.
- Ensure proper staffing, training, and development of the maintenance department.
- Enforce safety standards, company policies, and FAA regulations.
- Address performance issues and handle personnel matters, including discipline and termination when necessary.
- Promote a culture of accountability, quality workmanship, and continuous improvement.
- Manage and monitor the hangar and ramp operations, ensuring all tools, equipment, and materials are maintained and available.
- Ensure parts number accuracy, coordinating with procurement as needed to ensure readiness.
Regulatory Compliance & Documentation
- Maintain and update technical documentation including service manuals, airworthiness directives (ADs), technical bulletins, and aircraft specifications.
- Ensure all logbooks, 337s, and FAA-required documentation are completed accurately and on time.
- Act as liaison with the FAA, responsible for maintaining the company's maintenance certificates and handling FAA correspondence.
- Ensure quality control standards are met throughout all inspection, repair, and return-to-service processes.
Strategic & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work with senior leadership to develop and execute departmental strategies and budgets aligned with company goals.
- Coordinate with the Flight Operations Manager to ensure maintenance schedules align with aircraft availability and flight operations under Part 91 and Part 141.
- Support fleet planning, improvement initiatives, and customer service excellence.
Minimum Qualifications
- 5–10 years of experience in general aviation maintenance, with a strong background in operational and technical management.
- At least 5 years in a leadership or supervisory role, overseeing mixed-skill-level teams.
- Business acumen in budgeting, planning, reporting, and vendor management.
- FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) Certificate, with current and active status.
- FAA Inspection Authorization (IA) required.
- Expert knowledge of FARs, aircraft maintenance programs, and documentation requirements.
- Strong computer proficiency, including maintenance tracking software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Must pass background check and be authorized to work in the U.S.
