Clinical Base Manager - Grand Island, NE
Job Description:
The Base Manager (BM) functions under the supervision of the Regional Operations Director. The BM role is a leadership assignment in addition to primary duties as a Flight Nurse or Flight Paramedic. The BM assures assigned base is optimal and prepared for the delivery of air medical services to an assigned service area and patient population in a professional manner, utilizing the critical care process and the principles of continuous Quality Improvement in collaboration with other team members, including other employees of Apollo MedFlight and the staff of the different EMS services and hospitals served. The BM must be ready to perform other responsibilities besides patient care, including but not limited to base specific duties, customer service and performing education duties based on program and community needs. The BM must support an organizational culture for Service Excellence and practice the Service Excellence standards to all customer groups.
 
ESSENTIAL AND NONESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS
 
ESSENTIAL POSITION DUTIES
 
• All primary duties assigned as a Flight Nurse or Flight Medic.
• In collaboration with the Regional Operations Directors (ROD’s) and other Apollo Leadership, participates in the success of daily operations of Apollo MedFlight community base operations.
• Promotes team effort and unity when working with the Aviation, Maintenance, Communications Center, Patient Financial Services, and other members of Apollo MedFlight and external organizations and systems.
• Provides oversight of the clinical staffing schedules to assure proper clinical coverage for all shifts. Works with RCM to make schedule adjustments as necessary and works with leadership to monitor transport volumes and need for resource adjustments. Collaborates with ASM and MSM regarding staffing of pilots and mechanics for base coverage. Notifies ASM and MSM of any pending OOS for clinical staffing to maximize opportunities for maintenance or training. 
• Displays a working knowledge of financial awareness and demonstrates financial management skills as displayed by managing employee schedules to manage overtime and expenses related to employee staffing.
• Serves as liaison between Patient Financial Services and the clinical care team. Responsible for meeting the needs of PFS charting issues in a timely manner.
• Functions as a resource for dissemination of new information and problem resolution.
• Participate in regularly scheduled meetings with staff and leadership personnel.
• Consistently demonstrates professional behavior and performs proactive interventions which support the Mission, Vision, and Values of Apollo MedFlight.
• Actively participates on assigned committees.
• Demonstrates standards of performance (Accountability, Reliability, and Quality) that support customer satisfaction and principles of service and operational excellence.

• Completes audits to ensure compliance of daily shift duty and monthly responsibilities at base (checkoff sheets, daily duties, safety audits, etc.)
• Responsible for the oversight of base supplies and maintenance of quarters (Oxygen supplies, office supplies, cleaning supplies, lawncare as appliable, etc.)
• Responsible for oversight of local assigned Apollo MedFlight crew off duty housing including cleaning supplies, paper towels, bath tissue, water and any other items deemed necessary. Management of access keys including a signed log of those using the off-duty housing for tracking purposes.
• Responsible for ensuring clinical crew successfully and appropriately completes:
o Daily intubations.
o Crew shift change briefs.
o Clinical equipment checks.
o Aircraft out of service and return to service forms.
o Accurate completion of timecards in UKG.
o Blood refrigerator temperature logs.
• Completion of base clinical staffing schedule and submitted to RCM in no less than quarterly time blocks.
• Finds clinical shift coverage as needed or other schedule assistance as requested by RCM.
• Responsible for compliance with yearly helmet inspections for assigned base clinical staff.
• Assist with base meetings and the recording of minutes using the approved Apollo format.
• Assist with inspections and audits as needed by regulatory agencies.
• Responsible for base medical supplies.
o PPE / Narc counts UPD and being completed per policy.
o Maintain base stock of medications and other supplies and equipment.
o Work with Logistics Coordinator on narcotic orders.
o Work with Logistics Coordinator on PM’s and maintenance of cardiac monitors, ventilators, fetal monitors, etc.
• Collaborate with education and business development staff for needs in local region.
• Collaborates with business development in the development of a regional PR/BD plan.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

 

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
 
• Meet all requirements as listed in the current Flight Paramedic or Flight Nurse Job Descriptions.
• Successful completion of Just Culture training within 3 months of position acceptance.
• Completion of NIMS 700 & 800 within 3 months of position acceptance.
• Education assigned by senior leadership as needed.
• Regular and reliable attendance.
• Valid Driver’s License.
 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
 
• Certified Medical Transport Executive (CMTE)
• Greater than two years of supervisory experience
