Position Summary

A lead person shall have the responsibility to provide technical and operational assistance to employees within a defined team, group or unit, as directed by the lead person’s supervisor.  A lead person shall not be responsible for hiring, disciplining, terminating or reviewing the performance of employees within an employee team, group or unit.

 

In the absence of the supervisor the designated lead person will be responsible for completing all necessary department production and reports. In addition, the lead person may be responsible for opening or closing the facilities.  Any engineering related problems should be reported to the engineering department, while any personnel related issues should be referred to another shift supervisor or the Human Resource Manager.

 

Primary Responsibilities/Essential Job Functions:

  • Shared responsibility for finished goods meeting or exceeding customer expectations
  • Coordinate the activities of an employee team, group, or unit to efficiently meet the production schedule as set forth by customer demand and supervisory direction.
  • Assist employees when needed in the setup and operation of department equipment
  • Provide training and instruction to employees new to a department
  • Provide assistance to employees regarding proper completion of department paperwork (e.g. setup sheets, scrap tickets, etc.)
  • Make periodic quality checks within the department as required by the supervisor
  • Recommend to the supervisor changes in processes and procedures to improve overall product quality and/or department efficiency
  • Machine setup & operation for all operations in Melts Value Stream: Heat Shrink, Steam Expansion, Extrusion, Clean Room, Etch, etc.

  • Follow Clean Room protocol. Follow Clean Room gowning and de-gowning procedures

  • Chemical and material handling/storage
  • Demonstrates understanding of the different materials 
  • Set up computer SPC Program (training required)
  • Inspect and package tubing according to drawing from beginning to end. Review drawings for special notes on packaging and special length requirements of tubing

  • Follow directions from drawings, standard work and work instructions. 

  • Demonstrating correct techniques in processing lengths (clean, square cuts, within work order tolerances on overall length, correct packaging in tied or heat-sealed sleeving)

  • Identify non-conformities relating to product, process, and the quality system

  • Proper use of measuring devices (measurement training required)

    • Make labels for tubing and properly complete production reports (per work instructions)

    • Adhere to quality standards and guidelines. Maintain accurate records

    • Maintain work area in clean and orderly fashion, follow 5S practices

    • Report production issues to Value Stream Team Leader 

    • Perform work of an equal or lower classification

Other duties as assigned by Value Stream Team Leader and/or Value Stream Manager

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications (relevant experience, education and/or training):

  • High School Diploma or GED, recognizes International Diplomas (may need to be translated to English).

  • U.S. Citizen or permanent residency status required 

  • 3 – 5 yrs of experience in TexLoc processes preferred

  • Flexible to work in different departments of the Melts Value Stream to meet company needs.

  • Must be able to demonstrate ability to operate all manufacturing equipment within Melts VS

  • Must be able to read work orders and interpret manufacturing specifications, understand and use shop math, use and interpret measuring instruments (i.e. calipers, micrometers, pi tape, etc.)

  • Able to multitask and prioritize. Detail Oriented

  • Demonstrated leadership skills. Able to lead by example
  • Must be able to write legibly, read and speak English 

  • Must be able to work and communicate with peers

  • Must be able to adapt to production needs to satisfy customer demands

  • Basic computer skills preferred

Understanding of lean fundamentals preferred

Physical & PPE Requirements: 

Standing, sitting, bending, lifts up to 50 lbs., walking, squatting, kneeling, upper arm lifting, work in confined or small area, and work in clean room environment. Requires the ability wear specific garments depending on assigned location and environment, which may include, but are not limited to; jump suits, head covers, shoe covers, etc. Steel-toed shoes, safety glasses and ear plugs (85-90 dB) are all required when working in the mfg plant. All PPE provided by Company.
