This position is currently based between Dubois, Pennsylvania (DUJ), where our Training Academy is located, and our Operations Center in Addison, Texas.

JOB TITLE:  Director of Training and Standards DEPARTMENT:  SAE Training Academy FLSA STATUS:  Exempt REPORTS TO: VP Flight Operations and Director of Operations

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Ensures objectivity is maintained in the training and evaluation program, and that instructors, evaluators and line check pilots are permitted to perform assigned activities without inappropriate interference from management and/or external organizations.
  • Ensures that Check Pilots who conduct more than half of the training received by a trainee, shall not be the same check pilot/examiner conducting the final check ride for that trainee.
  • All instructors and Check Pilots report to the Director of Training during all training and checking events. Instructors and Check Pilots involved with day-to-day line flying report to the Chief Pilot during those flying events.
  • Advises the appropriate personnel of the status of all crewmembers involved in training.
  • Coordinates operations policies and training matters with the Director of Operations.
  • Ensures that the Electronic Manual System and Record Keeping Systems related to Flight Operations are presented in the Training Program to ensure understanding and ability to use the systems.
  • Coordinates line-flying standardization flights with the Chief Pilot.
  • In coordination with the Director of Operations, appends and revises training curriculums as appropriate to the operation.
  • Coordinates the schedules of Flight Instructors and Company Check Pilots.
  • Coordinates all check rides with the FAA and appropriate Company Personnel.
  • Ensures the records of all Training and Checking are updated electronically and/or hard copy as required by the Southern Airways Crewmember Training Program. Oversees the Pilot Records Department.
  • Oversees all operations of the Training Academy, directly or through oversight of staff responsible for daily operations of the Academy.
  • Oversees the Pilot Recruiting Department and ensures pilot recruits are properly vetted, with targeted number of positions filled in accordance with company need.
  • Coordinates with proper staff the scheduling of pilot training and travel to/from training.
  • Monitors and oversees the delivery of training services to ensure the highest quality programs and instruction.
  • Monitors and ensures the certification, qualification, currency, and proficiency of instructors.
  • Assist with preparing for FAA audits as requested by ensuring all files are complete and accurate.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS 

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA, BS) or equivalent from four-year College or technical school, or five years related experience.
  • 10 Years as instructor, check airman, or aviation management equivalent
  • Operational experience in a 14CFR Part 121 or 135 air carrier, or Military Aviation experience.
  • Two years of experience in a management role as a Director of Training, Director of Operations, or other 14CFR Part 119 position or military equivalent.
  • Ability to travel as needed and be present at the training academy during training.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must have vision ability to view and read computer displays on a frequent basis.
  • Ability to perform work duties from a limited space workstation/desk/office area for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job.
  • Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job.
  • Ability to converse/present/facilitate for up to 8 hours.
  • Ability to move/transport 25 lbs. on an occasional basis (under 25).

MISCELLANEOUS REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Computer skills – ability to learn phone systems, proficient with a PC.
  • Ability to work within a 24/7 operation including holidays.
  • Ability to pass 10-year background check and pre-employment drug screening, in accordance with company policy and/or airline regulations.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. per the Immigration Act of 1986.
