JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Director of Safety monitors all aspects of the Safety Management System (SMS), and acts with the authority of the CEO in all matters regarding safety. The Director of Safety reports to and works closely with the CEO. The Director of Safety supports the implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the SMS within the organization. This role works closely with the CEO and Safety Committee to ensure compliance with federal, state, and company regulations while promoting a culture of safety throughout flight, maintenance, and medical operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• • Maintain safety documentation; specifically, the SMS manual will be maintained as a controlled document and the requirements listed will be kept current and in good order;
  • Assist senior management in the development of safety goals and objectives for the Accountable Executives consideration;
  • Collectively with Senior Managers, revise and update the stated safety goals and objectives at least annually;
  • Develop and implement the Emergency Response Program (including drills and actual emergencies);
  • Work with Senior Managers to develop Safety Performance Indicators and Targets (SPI/SPT)
  • Monitor SMS performance and create performance reports for other managers and the Accountable Executive, as directed;
  • Maintain the organizations Change List and coordinate with Senior Managers and the Safety Committee to keep it updated;
  • Ensure System Analysis is regularly addressed as part of the organizations effort to identify and address hazards;
  • Maintain the company risk profile;
  • Facilitate hazard identification and risk management;
  • Determine the need for and coordinate development of required safety training materials prescribed by national, state, and local laws and regulations or industry best practices;
  • Evaluate employee hazard identifications for risk and recommend action;
  • Receive, evaluate, and process all employee hazard reports in accordance with the SMS manuals requirements and recommend action to mitigate risk;
  • Coordinate all safety activities and act as liaison between Survival Flight and other partners in regards to SMS;
  • Monitoring safety concerns in the aviation industry and their perceived impact on Survival Flights operations;
  • Monitor employee training programs to ensure that safety, health, and environmental information presented is current and satisfies applicable government rules and meets Survival Flight needs;
  • Encourage and guide Safety Promotion activities;
  • Facilitate the Safety Risk Management Process initiated from reported Hazards, Incidents and Accidents, Internal Evaluation Program Findings and Risks associated with Change Management;
  • Actively engage in the organizations implementation and maintenance of an effective and "Just" Safety Culture;
  • Foster an environment of openness through employee communications and engagement;
  • Other duties as assigned by the CEO.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Certified/Trained in Aviation SMS/Safety Training
• 3+ years of Aviation Safety experience
• 3+ years of Safety related experience
• Ability to make independent decisions and be able to independently resolve issues with demonstrated ability to execute at a high level
• Strong technical skills with computer products
• Advanced verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
• Able to manage multiple priorities with a focus on results
• Experience supporting a multi-state organization
• Willing to travel, this role will be 50 in office at Batesville AR and 50 on the road visiting bases

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: (ALL the Above +)

• Bachelors degree (or higher) in Aviation Safety Management
• FAA Pilot or Maintenance Certificate
• Previous Safety Manager training
• Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
