The EHS Manager will provide day-to-day Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) support for a designated manufacturing site, service shop, operating facility, or customer project. This role is aligned to a specific business or sector and requires close partnership with site leadership, operations, engineering, and other functional teams.The EHS Leader will help drive a strong safety culture, ensure compliance with applicable regulations and company requirements, and support “designing for EHS” in new products and processes. The role impacts site performance, employee well-being, and regulatory compliance, and requires sound operational judgment, strong communication skills, and the ability to influence without authority.This position operates with moderate autonomy, is guided by professional practices and policies, and has significant input into local priorities and continuous improvement initiatives.

Roles and Responsibilities

Site EHS Ownership and Support

  • Provide day-to-day EHS support for a manufacturing site, service shop, operating facility, or customer site.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for EHS questions, issues, and escalation at the site.

  • Ensure effective implementation of EHS programs, procedures, and standards.

Leadership and People Development

  • Typically act as a first-line manager of EHS professionals or a second-line manager of an EHS department, depending on site scope.

  • Coach and mentor less experienced EHS professionals and site personnel to build EHS capability.

  • Serve as a best practice and quality resource within the EHS function and broader site team.

Compliance, Risk Management, and Governance

  • Ensure site compliance with applicable EHS laws, regulations, permits, and company requirements.

  • Lead or support risk assessments, incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective actions.

  • Maintain and improve EHS management systems and documentation.

EHS by Design / NPI Support (as applicable)

  • Partner with engineering and operations on “designing for EHS” in new products, processes, or facility changes.

  • Provide EHS input into New Product Introduction (NPI) or process changes to reduce risk and improve sustainability.

Continuous Improvement and Strategy Contribution

  • Use data analysis and technical expertise to identify trends, prioritize risks, and recommend improvements.

  • Contribute to EHS strategy and policy development within area of responsibility.

  • Lead or support EHS projects and initiatives with moderate risk and resource requirements.

Cross-Functional Integration and External Awareness

  • Collaborate closely with operations, manufacturing, engineering, HR, quality, and facilities to integrate EHS into daily work.

  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of EHS best practices and an understanding of how the site’s approach compares to industry peers.

  • Bring a new perspective to existing solutions, leveraging both internal and external benchmarks to enhance performance.

Communication, Influence, and Culture Building

  • Communicate complex or sensitive EHS topics clearly to a wide range of stakeholders, including site leadership and hourly employees.

  • Work to build consensus on EHS priorities and actions.

  • Develop and refine persuasion and influencing skills to drive engagement and ownership of EHS across the site.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Environmental, Health & Safety roles with increasing responsibilities (e.g., compliance, program management, risk assessment, incident investigation, or EHS project leadership).

Desired Qualifications / Characteristics
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Engineering, Occupational Safety, or a related field; Master’s degree in EHS or Industrial Hygiene preferred.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging to different audiences (leadership, technical teams, shop floor).

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, with demonstrated ability to influence and collaborate across functions.

  • Proven problem-solving skills, including root cause analysis and implementation of sustainable corrective actions.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead programs and projects, manage multiple priorities, and deliver results on time.

  • Ability to document, plan, market, and execute EHS programs, campaigns, and initiatives.

  • Established project management skills, including planning, stakeholder engagement, and progress tracking.

This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information.
