In this role you will:
Environmental Assessments and Permitting
- Oversee and coordinate environmental site and impact assessments for infrastructure projects.
- Lead the environmental permitting process (preparing applications, negotiating permit conditions, securing regulatory approvals).
- Provide technical guidance to project teams on environmental best practices and regulatory standards.
Environmental Compliance
- Develop and implement compliance programs to meet federal, provincial and territorial requirements.
- Monitor and report on adherence to environmental permits, mitigation plans and ISO14001:2015 requirements.
- Conduct regular site inspections and audits and manage corrective action plans as needed.
Sustainability and Environmental Risk Management
- Develop and execute strategies to reduce environmental impact (e.g., water usage, waste).
- Identify and address environmental risks (e.g., biodiversity, pollution prevention).
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to drive continuous improvement and innovation.
Leadership and Budget Management
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of environmental professionals, promoting collaboration and professional growth.
- Plan, forecast and manage budgets for environmental programs, including the selection and oversight of consultants.
- Prepare briefings and reports for senior leadership, highlighting environmental performance and strategic initiatives.
Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration
- Liaise with regulatory agencies, community groups and other stakeholders to address environmental concerns.
- Maintain clear, transparent communication channels to facilitate project approvals and foster positive relationships.
- Influence cross-functional teams and leadership to align environmental objectives with overall corporate goals.
What you bring:
- Minimum 7 years of experience in the oversight of environmental management, permitting, or compliance roles.
- Demonstrated success in designing and implementing compliance programs (ISO14001).
- Experience leading or contributing to multiple, concurrent infrastructure or environmental projects from concept to close-out.
- Familiar with project management methodologies, including budgeting, scheduling and resource allocation.
- Track record of working with regulators, community organizations and other key stakeholders to advance project goals.
- Experience facilitating multi-disciplinary teams and communicating effectively with stakeholders (internal and external) and senior leadership.
- Experience developing junior team members and cultivating a collaborative team environment.
- Able to interpret environmental data, performing risk assessments and implementing mitigation measures in complex operating environments (e.g., airports, transportation corridors, or large infrastructure projects.
- Bachelor’s degree in any environmental science, environmental engineering, or related field.
- Must hold (or be able to obtain) a Professional Designation (e.g., Professional Biologist, P.Geo., P.Eng., or equivalent).
- In-depth understanding of federal, provincial and territorial environmental legislation.
- Awareness of the ISO14001:2015 international environmental standard and other best practices.
- Thorough grasp of environmental impact assessment protocols and methodologies for infrastructure projects.
- Understanding of environmental site assessments protocols and methodologies for infrastructure projects.
- Understanding of sustainability principles and environmental risk management strategies.
- Awareness of emerging environmental technologies and innovative approaches to minimize environmental footprints.
- Familiarity with NAV CANADA and team policies related to risk, compliance and ethical considerations.
- Understanding how environmental policies integrate with broader corporate objectives.

Working Conditions:
- Position is based at the Corporate Head Office, performing tasks such as planning, documentation, regulatory engagement and team coordination.
- Regular use of standard office equipment and environmental management software (GIS).
- Periodic travel (approximately 25) to project sites or regional offices across Canada.
- Possible extended hours, overnight travel depending on locations and requirements.
- Occasional field inspections in various weather conditions to assess site compliance, oversee consultants, or respond to environmental incidents.
- Physical demands could include walking on rough terrain, climbing, or standing for extended periods of time.
- Role is generally Monday – Friday, urgent environmental issues or incidents may require responding outside regular business hours.
- Flexibility in scheduling and prompt availability are crucial for addressing emergencies or critical project milestone.
- Need to respond to environmental incidents quickly and possibly outside normal business hours.
- This position is based at the Ottawa Head Office but may be eligible for a flexible work arrangement.
