Delta’s Revenue Technology, Loyalty, and Data Analytics organization unites several groups to achieve strategic business goals and technical solutions that create opportunities for us to innovate on behalf of our customers. The Manager, Data Governance will build, lead, and scale the Enterprise-wide Data Governance Program to support the full spectrum of Data Governance and Data Quality. This role is accountable for establishing governance and quality standards, implementing tools and techniques, providing training and support, and ensuring compliance to drive business value and operational efficiencies.

The Manager, Data & AI Governance will build, lead, and scale the Enterprise-wide Data & AI Governance Program. This role is accountable for establishing governance and quality standards, implementing tools and techniques, providing training and support, and ensuring compliance to drive business value and operational efficiencies supporting Delta’s AI ambitions.

We value our data as an asset. In this role, you will be a key enabler for unlocking the value of our data and getting it ready for AI! You will work closely with privacy and compliance teams, business stakeholders, data consumers, data producers, and data engineering to develop a vision and roadmap for data supporting our AI initiatives. Then, executing on that roadmap to onboard data assets; establish relevant standards and processes; and enable teams to find, understand, trust, and access the data they need.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:
  • Establish an enterprise Data & AI governance roadmap across various domains like Customer, Flight Ops, CX, Digital, Loyalty, Finance, HR, etc.
  • Lead the selection, implementation and adoption of the enterprise-wide data catalog, data quality and data observability solutions
  • Develop a data products spanetplace to provide a business friendly interface to search for data domains and associated analytics
  • Develop and implement AI governance policies and frameworks, ensuring AI systems are ethical, fair, transparent, and compliant with applicable laws and regulations
  • Managing and ensuring adequate staffing levels for the Data & AI Governance Program Office
  • Ensuring that all appropriate business functions are represented on the Data & AI Governance Board and Data Stewardship Council
  • Develop & maintain inventory of the enterprise information maps, including authoritative systems, owners
  • Collaborate with data producers and consumers to set data quality expectations, SLAs and monitoring requirements
  • Work with business leaders and business analysts to ensure metrics are defined and agreed
  • Report to the Data Governance Board and Senior leadership on Data & AI Governance performance
  • Collaborate with leadership across the organization to identify business needs and implement Data & AI Governance and Stewardship capabilities
  • Ensure Data & AI Governance and Stewardship processes are aligned with appropriate enterprise processes
  • Act as the key evangelist and authority on the Data & AI Governance program and vision to our stakeholders
  • Be the voice of our stakeholders by understanding their needs and prioritize them in alignment with the IT vision and team

What you need to succeed (minimum qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Statistics, Engineering, Business Administration or similar field of study
  • 10+ years of experience of data management expertise
  • 5+ years of experience implementing Enterprise-wide Data Governance programs, with at least 3 years in AI/ML-focused positions
  • Knowledge of data governance practices, business and technology issues related to management of enterprise information assets and approaches related to data protection
  • Experience implementing data catalog tooling such as Collibra, Alation, Unity, DataZone etc.
  • Experience implementing data quality and observability tooling such as Monte Carlo
  • Background in AI evaluation and oversight, AI ethics and responsible use
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and enforcing AI guidelines and framework within an organization
  • Knowledge of AI & ML observability and guardrail tools and techniques such as model drift management
  • Ability to translate business requirements into critical data dependencies and requirements
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams
  • Experience with data profiling or defining data quality rules
  • Ability to communicate effectively via multiple channels (verbal, written, etc.) with technical and non-technical staff
  • Ability to routinely interact with multiple levels of the organization including executive level members of the organization
  • Ability to work with the data warehouse users, IT Business Analysts and all levels of the organization including senior leadership
  • Confidence to dive into data, understand it inside out and how it connects to our stakeholders businesses
  • Solid business acumen, and critical problem-solving ability, with a capacity for strategic thinking
  • Extremely strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly
What will give you a competitive edge (preferred qualifications)

  • Advanced degree in Science, Statistics, Engineering, Business Administration or similar field of study
  • Experience in metadata management highly beneficial
  • Airline experience preferred
  • Experience working within AWS and cloud technologies at the enterprise level highly preferred
