Let your career take flight by joining our diverse and vibrant team at the leading edge of passenger aviation.Reporting to the Senior Engineer, Flight Efficiency and Performance Programs, the Manager, Performance Based Flight Operations Systems is responsible for engineering analysis, design, development, implementation, regulatory compliance, and monitoring of Flight Operations performance-based safety and efficiency programs. The incumbent will play a key role in implementing data science solutions by leveraging leading-edge technologies and applying engineering sciences to develop operational safety and efficiency improvements.
Responsibilities:Manage the Flight Operations fuel related data feed, data flow and data storage activities in accordance with the Fuel Control Manual, industry best practices and regulatory requirements. Oversee data requirements for all Performance-Based systems, and liaise with other branches, air navigation service providers and other 3rd parties as required.Manage all aspects of the Air Canada Analyzed Contingency Fuel performance-based program in accordance with the Fuel Control Manual and associated regulatory requirements and as directed by the Senior Engineer, Flight Efficiency and Performance Programs.Ensure that the Fuel Control Manual is updated in a timely manner in compliance with regulator performance-based requirements. Coordinate with document owners for the Aircraft Performance Procedures Manual and any other documentation to ensure on-going alignment with performance-based programs.Manage and expand the Flight Technical Fuel Control Monitoring program and other Flight Technical initiativesManage and act as primary SME for the Branch on all aspects of Flight Technical performance-based programs (fuel, communications, navigation, surveillance, and other aircraft systems) including but not limited to programs pertaining to the Fuel Policy and in accordance with the Fuel Control Manual.Build high quality, intuitive analytic solutions to highly complex flight technical problems that are simple to maintain and drive operational efficiency.Assess the completeness and accuracy of data through data analytical methods, identifying gaps in data. Provide feedback with guidance and options to obtain missing information.Provide analysis of results, identify critical information for operational efficiency initiatives and channel data into meaningful decision making.Identify potential risk situations within the scope of work and make recommendations to Senior Engineer, Flight Efficiency and Performance Programs to ensure operational integrity is maintained.Lead the development and continuous maintenance of all branch and department-level Safety Performance Indicators in matters of performance-based operations, aircraft performance, and flight efficiency, in compliance with the Fuel Control Manual and as directed by the Senior Engineer, Flight Efficiency and Performance Programs and the Manager, Advanced Technology and Operational Efficiency.Interact with various Branches to understand project requirements and constraints; work in various phases of the project lifecycle including research, requirements generation, design, implementation, testing, integration, installation and documentation.Maintain awareness of best practices to improve/refine processes that may improve efficiency and/or correct program deficiencies.Develop, implement, and maintain the Flight Profile Monitoring and Optimization suite. Ensure the continuous development and improvement of the suite in a manner promoting enhancements to the safety of flight.Support the activities pertaining to the aircraft emissions reduction program, including but not limited to management of efficiency projects, development and maintenance of measurement methodologies and liaison with the Environmental Affairs Climate Action Plan team.Maintain proficiency in matters pertaining to aircraft emissions measurement best practices and reporting obligations.Manage all aspects, including but not limited to aircraft data recording systems, data quality, contractual agreements and third-party products, of the data sources and flows required for all projects involving aircraft operation and flight efficiency data.Design develop and implement of Pilot and Flight Dispatcher training material required by any project delivered within the scope of the position or as directed by the Senior Engineer, Flight Efficiency and Performance Programs, or delegate.Contribute to the Pilot’s initial, and annual, and the Flight Dispatchers’ training programs.Prepare and deliver technical presentations and supporting documentation on all projects (i.e. flight efficiency and fuel optimization) to internal and external customers, as well as Flight Operations Senior Management and regulatory agencies.Regularly benchspan industry best practices to establish/maintain Air Canada’s leading position on safety and efficiency of fuel planning in matters related to flight efficiency and aircraft emissions reduction initiatives/processes.Act as a Process Improvement Leader in matters of performance-based fuel and efficiency programs, data feed systems, data science, and data flow management.Assume safety responsibilities in accordance with Sections 1.3.7 and 1.3.8 of the Corporate Safety Management Manual (CSMM).
QualificationsAn undergraduate degree in Engineering or Applied Science with specialization in Data Science or equivalent is essential. Graduate degree is highly desirable.PMP Certification is not essential but is an asset.Able to Communicate Operational and Technical information both in writing and orally at an expert level is essential. Ease with public speaking is essential.Expert knowledge of statistical software and analytic tools for data mining and visualization is required. Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint is essential.Thorough understanding of Airline Operational Data and Systems is highly desirable.
