Job Description

The Cable Harness Assembler performs a wide range of electronic and mechanical assembly tasks, building cable harnesses and related assemblies for advanced aerospace and defense systems. This role involves working from diagrams and drawings to assemble, inspect, and, when needed, rework cables and subassemblies in a highly regulated, climate-controlled manufacturing environment. The position is ideal for someone with strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and a desire to grow and learn in a secure, expanding facility.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble electronic and mechanical components, including modules, boards, panels, drawers, frames, and cables, in a production environment.
  • Follow detailed written instructions, diagrams, and engineering drawings to build cable harnesses and cable assemblies accurately and consistently.
  • Perform both repetitive and non-repetitive assembly operations, adjusting to different product configurations and requirements as needed.
  • Use hand and power tools, jigs, saws, and other production equipment to strip, crimp, terminate, and assemble copper and coaxial wire.
  • Make continuity checks on work in process and completed assemblies to verify proper connections and functionality.
  • Conduct quality inspections on the processing line in accordance with defined quality specifications and industry standards.
  • Disassemble, modify, rework, reassemble, and test experimental or prototype assemblies and subassemblies according to specifications and under simulated conditions, when required.
  • Apply IPC and related industry standards during assembly, soldering, and inspection activities to ensure high-quality workmanship.
  • Read, interpret, and follow print instructions, work instructions, and process documentation with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe individual workstation in accordance with facility safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrate a growth mindset by learning new techniques, tools, and processes, and by actively seeking feedback to improve performance.

Essential Skills

  • Demonstrated experience in cable, wire harness, or cable harness assembly within a manufacturing setting.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to work confidently with hand tools and basic production equipment.
  • Ability to strip, crimp, and assemble copper and coaxial wire using appropriate tools and techniques.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow written work instructions, diagrams, blueprints, and print instructions.
  • Experience with electronic assembly, including basic soldering and wiring tasks.
  • Capability to perform continuity checks and basic functional checks on assemblies.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to meeting quality specifications and standards.
  • Willingness and ability to work in a highly regulated, safety-conscious manufacturing environment.
  • Growth mindset and willingness to learn new skills, processes, and certifications.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • IPC-610 Certification (Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies) preferred.
  • IPC-620 Certification (Requirements and Acceptance for Cable and Wire Harness Assemblies) preferred.
  • IPC J-STD-001 Certification (Requirements for Soldered Electrical and Electronic Assemblies) preferred.
  • Familiarity with IPC/WHMA-A-620 requirements and acceptance criteria for cable and wire harness assemblies.
  • Familiarity with IPC-7711/IPC-7721 standards for rework, repair, and modification of printed boards and electronic assemblies.
  • Prior experience with IPC 610/620 requirements and cable assembly processes is a plus.
  • Experience with electronic assembly, SMT, PCB, and mechanical assembly is beneficial.
  • Ability to work under a microscope for detailed assembly and inspection is helpful.
  • Comfort using a variety of hand tools and small power tools in a production environment.
  • Previous experience in a large, regulated manufacturing facility is an advantage.

Work Environment

The role is based at a large, highly regulated manufacturing facility in Oldsmar, Florida, known internally as the Clearwater site. The environment is climate controlled and air conditioned, with well-spaced individual workstations that support focus, comfort, and safety. The facility uses state-of-the-art equipment and follows strict safety and quality procedures, creating a structured and predictable work setting. The position operates on a four-day workweek: first shift runs from 5:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and second shift runs from 3:30 p.m. to 2:00 a.m., Monday through Thursday, with Fridays typically scheduled off. The dress code is consistent with a professional, safety-conscious manufacturing environment, where appropriate attire and use of personal protective equipment may be required based on tasks performed.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $28.00/hr.
