TITLE: Chief Pilot  

REPORTS TO: Director of Operations

Position based out of Miami HDQ no remote position available.

 

Overview: 

The Chief Pilot (CP) for Global Crossing Airlines (GlobalX) manages complex situations and day to day operations with a problem-solving approach, taking a broad perspective to identify innovative solutions and develop new concepts, methods, and techniques to improve operations. Is a self-starter and works closely with other ops teams, regulator and other supporting cross functional workgroups.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Ensuring a safe and efficient operation conducted in compliance with all laws, rules, and applicable regulations. 
  • Ensuring flight operations are conducted IAW applicable CFRs and Company rules and regulations.
  • Ensuring prompt reporting, filing, and follow-up action on accidents and other required reports to the appropriate FAA agencies. 
  • Coordinating the pilot hiring process.
  • Understand and actively participate in the GlobalX Safety Management 

System, remaining vigilant for hazards/associated safety risks and for reporting safety issues to supervisors. 

  • Ensuring subordinates are trained and qualified in their duties. 
  • Assist in formulating the planning of future flights, routes, contracts, operations, and new equipment.
  • Maintain availability and serves on a normal full-time basis, unless restricted by the rest requirement of CFR 121.
  • Develop and maintain flight standards.
  • Selection of flight personnel for advancement and upgrading IAW Company policy and FAA requirements.
  • Supervise, Assist, and standardize through the Manager Flight Operations Training, the training of all pilots.
  • Remain qualified on at least on type of Company aircraft and flies when directed by the Company.
  • Understand and actively participate in the GlobalX safety management system, remaining vigilant for hazards/associated safety risks and for reporting safety issues to supervisors.

 

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • FAA-issued Airline Transport pilot license which has never been suspended or revoked, plus meets the minimum experience flying. 
  • The CP must understand and be able to write procedures in compliance with the regulations (CFRs) and must be able to research FAA Order 8900.1, Advisory Circulars (AC), and any other FAA and DOT documents. 
  • To serve as Chief Pilot under § 119.65(a) a person must hold an airline transport pilot certificate with appropriate ratings for at least one of the airplanes used in the certificate holder&39;s operation and:
  1. In the case of a person becoming a Chief Pilot for the first time ever, have at least 3 years’ experience, within the past 6 years, as pilot in command of a large airplane operated under part 121 or part 135 of this chapter, if the certificate holder operates large airplanes. If the certificate holder uses only small airplanes in its operation, the experience may be obtained in either large or small airplanes. 

(2) In the case of a person with previous experience as a Chief Pilot, have at least 3 years’ experience, as pilot in command of a large airplane operated under part 121 or part 135 of this chapter, if the certificate holder operates large airplanes. If the certificate holder uses only small airplanes in its operation, the experience may be obtained in either large or small airplanes.

  • The CP must be a current/qualified CAPT with no training failures. 
  • Strong cognitive, communication and leadership skills.
  • Must be available and flexible to work variable shifts including weekends and holidays.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to build relationships.

 

 

Work Schedule: The Chief Pilot will work in the GlobalX headquarters in Miami (No remote working). The primary schedule is Monday to Friday, weekends off, except for being the duty officer assignment. However, the Chief Pilot must be available 24 hours a day 7 days a week in the event of a safety sensitive or operational issues that occur. Must fly at least 3 sequences or landings a month to maintain currency and qualification.
