From airports to boardrooms, our Legal team provides advice and counsel on all aspects of the business, assessing legal risks and compliance, while our Ethics and Compliance team ensures that we run an ethically sound operation. Together, these teams help us make the best possible decisions for our airline, to run our business with integrity, ensuring our airline operates lawfully and ethically, creating a company we are all proud to work for.

Key Responsibilities:

This Counsel role will be directly involved in the drafting and negotiating of complex commercial agreements, particularly those related to the purchase, leasing, and maintenance of aircraft engines. These agreements directly impact the company from safety, reliability, and financial perspectives and need careful consideration and strong advocacy. This Counsel role is integral to the development, risk analysis, and negotiation of these arrangements.

  • Review, draft, and negotiate aircraft engine maintenance agreements
  • Review, draft, and negotiate aircraft engine purchase agreements and leases
  • Review, draft, and negotiate various other commercial agreements
  • Provide internal advice and interpretation regarding existing commercial agreements

QualificationsWhat’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):
  • Juris Doctorate degree
  • Minimum of 5 years of practice negotiating complex commercial matters.
  • License to practice law in one or more states and eligible to practice in Illinois
  • Excellent drafting skills
  • Excellent negotiation skills
  • Strong leadership, project management and communication skills
  • Understanding of basic accounting principles
  • Ability to learn technical processes and standards
  • Ability to understand and translate complex mathematical computations
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
  • This role is based in Chicago and follows a hybrid scheduling model with a combination of 3 days per week in-office (Tues-Thurs) and remote work
What will help you propel from the pack (Preferred Qualifications):
  • Minimum of 5 years of in-house legal practice
  • Knowledge of aviation industry and/or aircraft engine maintenance
