However, such connectivity has also resulted in the ability for largely remote and anonymous cybercriminals to gain access to end-user finances, technology and personal data. A very large proportion of successful cybersecurity breaches are believed to be as a result of human behaviour, with this figure not significantly abating despite additional time and budget now being applied to both technical and human interventions.

We are therefore looking for a research assistant to join our Human-centric Cybersecurity Research Team to help support cutting-edge studies within this area, exploring human vulnerability in cyber-security and designing control measures that offer improved support towards mitigation. The successful candidate will be involved in all aspects of planned human factors research projects including the development, deployment, analysis, dissemination and application of results.

This exciting role will be situated inside a wider team, where collaboration across disciplines is also required to achieve the mutual goal of reducing cyber threat success. This allows the post holder further development of their own knowledge and skill set across a wide range of topics.

• Support the Human-centric Cybersecurity Team in the success of all planned research projects in 2023. Assist in the utilisation of technology to assist to fit the Human-centric Cybersecurity research study needs. Assist the lead Human-centric Cybersecurity Researcher in the writing of all internal reports, external research publications and the creation of usable intervention.

• Ability to support the transport and set-up of test equipment between sites (transport will be provided).
• Excellent planning and organisational skills.
• Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
• Excellent interpersonal skills key for working directly with people involved in studies, and providing assistance to the fitting of equipment.

• A degree in a related technical discipline e.g., Computing.
• Experience in the use of biometric tools to measure human physiology is desirable but not essential e.g, the use of eye trackers, heart rate monitors, EEG.
• Experience in the utilisation of virtual reality in research is also desirable but not essential.
• Ability to develop software applications and scripts, and use existing software tools, for the purpose of data analysis.
• Understanding of the legal and ethical responsibilities involved in tests involving human subjects, and in particular, the handling/anonymisation of any PII generated through these tests.
