JOB TITLE: Airline Technical Writer
DEPARTMENT: Flight Operations
REPORTS TO: Manager, technical Publications
FLSA: Exempt
Location: Dallas, TX HQ
The principal role of the Airline Technical Writer is to create and maintain a suite of flight-related publications which must comply with FAA and Company guidelines, and with established industry safety standards. Airline Technical Writers individually and collectively contribute to the safety of flight by producing accurate, timely, and standardized publications.
This role offers a hybrid work model, with a core requirement of three days a week on-site in our Addison office and the flexibility to work remotely on the other two days, with the option to work in-person on an as-needed basis. Essential Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Responsible for the revision and publishing of assigned manuals, including working directly with subject matter experts to identify necessary changes, authoring content in MS Word or other format, participating in regulatory review meetings, ensuring content standards are met, meeting established deadlines, distributing content through an MDM, intranet and other locations where required
- Responsible for performing QA reviews/proofing of content produced by peers to ensure content standards are met and all identified changes are incorporated as intended
- Responsible for assigning, tracking, creating and submission of new and revised content to the regulatory authority for approval
- Maintain an archive of changes, and published manuals in accordance with company record and retention policy
- Coordinate printing and distribution of hard copy products with print vendors, operational, engineering, and planning departments
Job Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Technical writing, publishing, computer-science, or aviation-related experience
- 3+ years’ experience as a technical writer/editor, or relevant experience in a related or complementary field
- Experience with Word, SharePoint, Microsoft office and Adobe products
- Detail-oriented, reliable, punctual attendance, ability to meet deadlines
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
- Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
- Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree
- Experience managing aviation documentation
- Experience working with an Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) Program
- Experience with Comply 365 or other document management and distribution tools
- Understanding of FARs, aviation terminology and airline operations
- Aviation Experience
- Experience in Part 121 or Part 135 operations
Miscellaneous Requirements:
- Must be able to pass a 10-year background check and pre-employment drug screen as required by airline regulations and company policies.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S. per the Immigration Act of 1968.
- Southern Airways participates in E-Verify.

- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Computer, office equipment, phone skills.
- Ability to work within a 24/7 operation, including holidays.
- Must be able to meet all physical requirements related to aircraft weight limitations before and during employment.
