Writes, rewrites and/or edits technical documents such as technical procedure manuals, user manuals, operational specifications, and related technical publications to communicate clearly and effectively technical specifications and instructions to aviation mechanics. Acquires subject knowledge by referring to technical specifications, blueprints, and engineering illustrations or models.
Responsibilities
- Researches, writes, edits and proofreads aviation technical data for use in documents or sections of documents such as manuals, procedures and specifications
- Ensures technical documentation is accurate, complete, meets editorial and government specifications and adheres to standards for quality, graphics, coverage, format and style
- Assists in establishing style guidelines and standards for texts and illustrations
- Retrieves, organizes, analyzes and synthesizes subject matter and transforms it into easy-to-understand information
- Creates or revises hardware or software product documentation, which includes installation, operation and maintenance instructions and other technical publications such as technical advisories and release notes
- Performs work under general supervision
- Handles moderately complex issues and problems and refers more complex issues to higher-level staff
- Typically requires BA and 2-4 years
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree or 4 years of applicable experience required
- Experience developing paper‐based maintenance manuals and/or Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETMs)
- Knowledge of fixed and rotary wing military aircraft systems and operation is essential
- Candidate must have a strong working knowledge of military specifications to include those pertinent to the development of operator and maintenance manuals, abbreviated checklists, inspection manuals, work cards, Repair Parts and Special Tools
- List (RPSTL) manuals, and Modification Work Orders (MWOs)
